OUR FOUNDERS

We are a team of therapists, specializing In augmentative communication and speech therapy services for Individuals with complex communication needs. As therapists and parents, we recognize that the same camp opportunities are not available for all children and have set out to do something about it! Our camps focus on functional communication, use of technology and language enrichment. Together, we have over 70 years of experience with complex communicators and AAC.

In 2019, Camp REACH received the Stephen E. Sallee Assistive Technology Award of Excellence. The award recognizes individuals who have contributed significantly to the promotion of assistive technology services to North Carolinians with disabilities who need assistive technology. The award is in recognition of significant contributions furthering access to assistive technology.


Rebecca “Becca” Crutchfield

Rebecca “Becca” Crutchfield is an ASHA certified Speech-Language Pathologist. Becca received her master's degree in speech pathology from University of North Carolina in 1987 and her bachelor’s degree from the psychology from St. Lawrence University  1984. Becca’s focus over the years has been in early language development, Augmentative Communication and family-based therapy. In addition, she has been trained in PROMPT therapy. Becca worked in the public-school setting with children with complex needs before opening her own private practice, Crutchfield Speech & Language. She has presented at the state level for NCACA. She believes there is no one therapy that is right for all children and that their communication system must be integrated into their natural environment. Becca is also a co-founder of Camp REACH, a summer camp in Guildford County for children and young adults with complex communication needs. She has two children, Sydney age 33 and Weston age 29. She lives in Greensboro where she is transitioning into retirement by facilitating wellness workshops at her newly opened organic bed & breakfast, Four Farms Place.


Wendi McMillan

Wendi McMillan is an ASHA certified Speech-Language Pathologist with 33 years of experience. Wendi received her Master's degree in Speech Pathology at UNC-Greensboro and her undergraduate in Speech Pathology and Audiology at Southeastern Louisiana University. Wendi has had the privilege of working as an SLP in a variety of settings, including private practice and public schools with all ages. She has specialized training in the areas of augmentative communication and works mainly children with significant disabilities and rare diagnosis. Wendi is also the co-founder of Camp REACH. She is the past president and Honors Recipient of the NC Augmentative Communication Association. She has presented at both the state and national level at ASHA, CTG, and ATIA.  Since retiring from Guilford County School as their Lead AT/AAC Specialist, she has worked as an AAC evaluator for children and adults in private practice. She shares her love of speech yearly on mission trips through World Pediatrics in the Caribbean. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Tim of 38 years. Her boys, Alan and Hayden are off exploring the World. Wendi has a love of travel and  all this Italian.


Jennifer Tate

Jennifer Tate is an ASHA certified Speech-Language Pathologist with 23 years’ experience. Jennifer received her master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from The University of Memphis and her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Jennifer has spent her career focusing on adolescent language, Augmentative Communication and community-based therapy. She has worked in both the public-school setting and private practice. Jennifer has presented nationally at ATIA conferences and at the state level for NCACA, NCDPI and NCATP. She is also a past president and Honors Recipient of the NC Augmentative Communication Association. She is currently the Lead AT Specialist for Guilford County Schools and a service provider with CPH. Jennifer is also a co-founder of Camp REACH. She lives in Summerfield with her two children, Maggie age 17 and Henry age 13. If you can’t find her doing speech therapy, chances are she is on a soccer field or in a gym, cheering them on!
